Chasing the Championship: Team Faith

The latest update from the Team Faith Arenacross team, and their race to the podium. There are only a handful of races left in the series, and Team Faith has a great chance to take the championship. Below is the latest post race report from the team manager Brian O’Rourke:

We had anther pretty good weekend in Wichita despite the blizzard that had the potential to keep us from even showing up! On Thursday when Brian O’ left Nashville for Wichita, the route he was going to take quickly was infected by SNOW! Thanks to some quick thinking and research we were able to avoid the nasty weather by taking an alternate route that only added 3 hours to the trip.

Kelly Smith started us out on the weekend by preaching a great message on forgiveness to all the athletes and crews at the mandatory Riders Meeting.

As we were a bit short-handed this weekend, Jeff’s dad Dan Gibson was recruited to take care of Jeff’s needs for the weekend and Brian O’ switched over to tending to Kelly Smith. We also had our ole buddy Chad Goodwin volunteering to help so we had things pretty much covered and ready to go for the weekend.

Again, this was a single-night round with all the points available for the Championship obtainable in this one night of racing.

After Larry Dean and Brian O’ did worship and the Message at the Team Faith Devotional Dinner, we were all ready to race!

Both Kelly Smith and Jeff Gibson were in Heat #2 together which was a very stacked Heat! Kelly finished 2nd and Gibby finished 4th to advance directly to the Mains.

In Main #1 Kelly got wadded up hard and DNF’d while Jeff finished 3rd. Then the entire field was inverted and for once it favored us! In Main#2 Kelly grabbed the Holyshot and led wire to wire for the victory! Gibby put in a great ride again this weekend and finished 4th for another 2nd Overall!

With 6 Main Events left to score points in We are still VERY MUCH in the hunt for the Championship. Jeff is riding super smooth and consistent and we are only 2 points out of the lead in 2nd place. Kelly still has some fire left in him despite some setbacks here recently and he is ready for an Overall win which could put him right back in the thick of things! STAY TUNED!!!
